The Bride of Christ
God married Israel, but she kept backsliding against him. She broke the marriage covenant, so he made a new covenant with her through his Son Jesus Christ. Those who believe the new covenant are married to him. Those who reject the new covenant are not married to him.
Hosea 2:19-20 NASB [19] "I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice, In lovingkindness and in compassion, [20] And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness. Then you will know the LORD.
The new covenant is open to both Jew and Gentile, but it’s no longer a covenant with national Israel. It’s a new and holy nation comprised of both former Jews and former Gentiles. Former, because there is neither Jew, nor Gentile in Christ Jesus. The bible calls New Jerusalem the bride of Christ because the only people in the New Jerusalem are those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
Revelation 21:9-10 NASB [9] Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and spoke with me, saying, "Come here, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb. [10] And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,
Revelation 21:27 NASB [27] and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
